Shave Ice Machine

Place the machine on a stable, flat surface. It is a commercial-grade machine and is powerful and heavy.Place the safety shield firmly over the blade housing. (NEVER reach into the machine while it is running–the blades are SHARP!) Let the ice block sit at room temperature for 2-3 minutes, and then load it onto the prongs (flat side down) and press firmly until the prongs grip the ice. (This machine is designed for cylinder block ice. Use ice blocks up to 6 inches tall and 8 inches in diameter.)Position a bowl or cup directly under the chute to catch the shaved ice.Turn the machine on using the power switch. The motor will spin up to 1725 RPM –normal operation has a steady, consistent sound.Adjust the blade while the machine is running–slowly turn the blade adjustment until it just starts contacting the ice. The machine will begin shaving. The shallower the contact, the finer and fluffier the result. (Turn knob left for more coarse, turn knob right for more fine)When the ice block shaves down to the point where the prongs are nearly exposed, turn off the machine, remove any ice remnant, and load a fresh block to continue.Add your choice of flavored syrup to the shaved ice and serve immediately.

The blade adjustment knob controls how deeply the blade contacts the ice block. Adjust it while the machine is running to dial in your desired texture.Ultra-fine/fluffy (knob to the right): Blade barely contacts the ice. Best for Hawaiian-style shaved ice, slushies, and frappes. Melts fast–serve immediately.Medium: Moderate blade depth. Good all-purpose texture for flavored ices and most desserts. Holds its shape a bit longer.Coarse/chunky (knob to the left): Deeper blade contact. Produces a snow-cone-like texture. Better for slow-melting desserts and sorbet bases.

Turn off and unplug the machine before any cleaning.Remove the safety shield–it is designed to detach easily for cleaning. Rinse it with warm water and mild soap, then dry thoroughly.Wipe down the exterior plastic housing with a damp cloth.Let any ice melt and drain from the interior. Wipe down the stainless steel blade plate and chute area with a damp cloth. Do not submerge the machine. Use extreme caution when wiping near the blade–it is sharp even when the machine is off and unplugged.

Machine won't turn on: First check that the safety shield is firmly and correctly seated– the machine has a built-in limit switch that prevents operation without the shield in place. Also verify the power cord is fully plugged in and the outlet is working.Ice isn't shaving/blade isn't engaging the ice: With the machine running, slowly turn the blade adjustment knob to increase depth until the blade just contacts the ice. Also confirm the ice block prongs are firmly embedded in the ice–-if the prongs aren't gripping, the block spins without feeding into the blade. Press the prongs down firmly onto the ice block before starting.Ice texture is grainy or chunky instead of fluffy: Reduce the blade depth by turning the knob to the right so the blade makes lighter contact with the ice. Also check that your ice block was frozen completely solid and allowed to temper briefly–ice that is too hard or too freshly frozen can shave coarser. The shallower the blade, the finer and fluffier the result.Ice chunks flying out instead of falling into the cup: Make sure the safety shield is properly installed–it is designed to direct shaved ice downward into the chute and block large chips from flying. If the shield is in place and chunks are still escaping, reduce blade depth slightly so the machine shaves rather than chips the ice.Ice block won't stay in place / spins without shaving: The metal prongs must be fully embedded in the ice. Press the block down firmly–you should feel it seat solidly. If the block surface is too slick or partially melted on the outside, dry it briefly with a towel before loading. Using a round container for your ice block (like an ice cream tub) helps center the block on the prongs.Machine is very loud or making an unusual grinding noise: A steady loud hum is normal given the 1725 RPM commercial motor. A new grinding or rattling sound, however, suggests the blade may need adjustment, tightening, or replacement. Turn off the machine and inspect the blade for chips or looseness. Yes. If you have access to solid ice blocks that will fit the machine, you are welcome to provide your own ice. A few things to keep in mind:Some block ice from the stores are not actually solid but packed cubes. We don't recommend these as they will break apart and make chunky snow.Ice blocks need to be smaller than 7" tall and 8" wide.If you decide to freeze your own ice, plan in advance, it takes an average 48 hours to full freeze.We do sell ice that you can include in your rental that is the ideal size for the machine.
